UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors get worn out over time and will need to be replaced. In this case, it is important that the new handles are in line with the critical dimensions of the old handle.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw position, lever and key hole sizes. Use the size guide to assist you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever door handle is a contemporary handle that can be used on doors that are new or replacement. This type door handle is offered in a wide range of designs and finishes. This handle is offered by several manufacturers, including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.

The handles of uPVC/Composite are constructed from robust materials, and are perfect for multi-point lock doors that need a heavy-duty design. The handles are inline and they use the same screws and spindle to fix them. They can be easily installed on any uPVC/Composite doors.

The handle can be adjusted and angled to suit all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles. This will ensure the quality of the finish and performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever is adjustable to accommodate a wide range of locks. This is useful for doors with narrower openings where the cylinder is situated further away from the door. A shortened lever is also a good choice for doors that have latches that can be activated by the thumb turn on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc functions differently from lever-type handles on doors. The handle can operate from a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side using two inline or offset spindles (pad). They are typically used on UPVC doors with double glazing. They come in a range of finishes and variations.

The handles are available in various finishes, including White chrome and Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to corrosion. This gives the handle an outstanding performance and long-lasting durability for its intended use.

All UPVC levers for handles come with a spindle, screws and can be mounted on the uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm permit a bigger size of handle which is often a benefit when replacing a damaged or worn multi point door lock mechanism. The handle levers come with springs, which eliminate the problem of door handles that move out of the horizontal position when they are not being used.

When choosing a replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ on both the multipoint lock and the uPVC patio door handle. This measurement is often known as the "handle centre" or "cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect of matching up the right handles.

Once you have the correct PZ size you will then be required to make sure that the handle lever pads and push pads are of a suitable shape for the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) approved handles you require for your doors. They are usually a square or round shape, with an internal lever and an external push pad.

The majority of the UPVC Lever Pads we sell are sprung. This means they can be reverted to a horizontal position when not in use instead of hanging and possibly sticking in the frame. This prevents drafts and cold air from entering a home. Also, the majority of the UPVC handle lever pad style handles are swivel which allows you to place them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are usually used on uPVC doors, but can also be found on other types of doors. The cylinder lock operates by a key which unlocks the cylinder case. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned to the pins in the lock and allow them to turn the camera that rotates, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with external and internal doors generally requiring different levels of security.

The choice of the correct cylinder is vitally important; this depends on the way your door and handle are utilized. For instance, doors that are external should be fitted with an extra secure cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders have extra features that can improve security, for instance anti-drill and anti-bump characteristics.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is of the right size for your door, it should be measured correctly. The cylinder should be measured from the hole in the center of the fixing screw to each end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in a fixed position, you can remove it. A cylinder that is protruding beyond the handle and escutcheon could be vulnerable to attacks such as lock snapping, so it is essential that it is not too long.

Most newer cylinders have been made with anti-drill and bump resistance features included in their design. These are designed to reduce the chances of an attack by causing the cylinder to rotate in the opposite direction. This can help stop the attack and keep your doors safe.

There are also cylinders designed to resist snapping. This is a growing type of attack on cylinders where the break line inside the lock is attacked by a tool that is specially designed to break off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to be opened. This is a quicker and easier way to gain access than through the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves no evidence of the break-in which can hinder insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is located in the base plate of your door handle. It provides a sprung solution to return your multipoint lock handles back to their resting position after use. In the past, a lot of these types of handle did not have a spring built into them, and without it they tend to droop or drop when the locking window handles mechanism has been disengaged. This component is the best way to solve this issue. It also stops your door from becoming stuck in the closed or open position, as they are difficult to close manually.

These spring cassettes were created to be used with a sprung multipoint lock. They are not compatible with unsprung handles, and you will have to cut a hole into the backplate to allow them to fit. (Please see the image for a more detailed diagram). They are a replacement for damaged or missing cassettes inside the backplates of door handles for upvc windows of numerous kinds of uPVC doors. They are fitted with a square cut out which accommodates an 8mm spindle and are sold as a set.
